Seventy-eight elderly people were evaluated in terms of number of teeth (including prosthetics or dentures), and degrees of care needed, HDS-R, and feeding evaluation. The results showed that regardless of grasping of a tool, relationships existed between number of teeth and degree of care needed (O.R.; 5.25, 95% Cl, 2.21～12.45, p<0.001), HDS-R (O.R.; 0.74, 95% Cl, 0.60～0.91, p=0.005), and feeding evaluation items (p<0.05). The findings suggest that it is important for occupational therapists to focus on dental health, especially in terms of dental hygiene practices and denture use, with the elderly (and the demented in particular) for whom oral hygiene and attaching and detaching dentures is difficult.},
