The cases in 2000 are 261 and 5.7 per 10,000 of child (0 to 18 years old) population. Increase during 11 years from 1990,when Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has started to take statistics, is 17.4 times and the number per 10,000 child population increased by 22.0 times. To cope with child abuse, they carry out actively the following : investigation of the safety of abused children on consultation and research, temporary care, counseling interview of the parents or guardian, authorized placement to child welfare facilities assistance towards family reunion. These are carried out by five child guidance center in the prefecture in close collaboration with the related organizations. It will be urgently important for future prevention of child abuse that fulfillment and strengthen of consultation system in child guidance center and temporary care home.
