This article introduces the discussion in the USA to make the task of Japan clear. 1) The roles of Public Nutrition are provision of theory and tools to support the action (including planning, implementation and evaluation) for nutrition policy and programs with other sectors, for the purpose of sharing the public nutrition services by all members of the community, nation and the world. 2) The most important knowledge and skills are communication skills and knowledge and skills on action of nutrition policy and programs. 3) Education in the University should provide not only the explanation of the current nutrition programs, but also the theory and tools for action of nutrition policy and programs.
